To Houston: A Message of Love From Iraq

Preemptive love is not a one-way street. It is not from “us” to “them.” It is not from “here” to “there.” Because there is no “us” and “them.” There is no “here” or “there.”

We belong to each other.

You’ve stood with the people of Iraq and Syria for years during crisis, displacement, conflict, and devastation. You’ve been there for them through thick and thin.

And now, they are standing with you in Houston.

Ihsan is one of our staff members in Iraq. He has braved bombs and bullets to deliver your love to Fallujah, Mosul, Tal Afar, Baghdad, and beyond. And now, he’s standing with you as you deliver his love to the people of Houston. He shared this message earlier today:

This is how love crosses oceans. This is what it means to belong to each other. What you’ve been doing for Iraq and Syria for years, they are ready to do for the people of Houston.

There is no “us” and “them.” There is no “here” or “there.” We are in this together. We belong to each other.
